Simulation and Experiment of the Spiral Digging End-Effector for Hole Digging in Plug Tray Seedling Substrate

Usually the planters used in agricultural machinery face two problems: The have to spread soil twice using tray seed planter, and it is difficult for them dig holes before planting. This study has designed a spiral digging end-effector parallel effectively quickly so that seeds can be planted easily. A was with five bits, synchronous belt, cylinder, gear motor, connecting plate based on size pumpkin characteristics. Before optimization of end-effector’s parameters, substrate discrete element model parameters were calibrated method “material funneling” applied EDEM simulation. contact (substrate–substrate static friction coefficient, substrate–substrate rolling surface energy) significant impacts AOR (angle repose) selected by applying Plackett–Burman Design path steepest ascent method, their respective optimal value range determined. parameter values obtained through Central Composite response analysis test, optimized combining particle verification test results indicate accurate reliable if coefficient 0.427; 0.039, energy 0.228. When cone angle 30°, 80°, rotational speed 240 r/min, section width at hole depth 13 mm 23.1 mm, overflow proportion about 2.05%. Compared protrusions penetrating end-effector, porosity increased, aeration improved. Therefore, seedling sow seeds, which provides research basis design improvement automatic sowing equipment.
